Literature Text

The reader gazed at her ball
Flipped a few cards, read a palm
Fevered ploys didn't fix feeling pall
Didn't drop a coin as we fled her stall
As we rushed out she suddenly beam

Life, it's so absurd

As she shook and screamed
Blanked barrel teeth gleamed
Deeply penetrated eyes seemed
Barbed wire dragged life dreamed
Of an escape from the world obscene
So before she left, she said

Life, it's so absurd

So I stood above her bed
Weeks a soaked restless head
Many miles barefoot I had tread
Why I must continue my trek ahead
Dashing my ship against rocks instead
So I couldn't help but stop and mutter

Life, it's so absurd

Before befriending a gutter
Fierce morbid tramp did stutter
Dragged amidst the filthy clutter
Demanding limbs for fresh butter
Without scrapping I shed and flutter
To his delight, I caught him grumble

Life, it's so absurd

Drifted to stall mind a jumble
Wide eyes my lips did mumble
Stories on my world that crumbled
Make a fortune on my unique stumble
Before I set these ink sheets up a tumble
What would make a suiting title?
Finally had a creative muse hit me last night at around 2am. Always then and always the darkest too, but then again that's all I seem to write. Better break that curve eventually, but not after I put this one up. I'm always looking for different rhyme schemes and this one struck me as interesting at the time. Four slightly increasing lines with the same rhyme at the end followed by a fifth ending line that determines the next stanza's set of rhymes.
